Playing The Pines of Rome With the CPO!

May 25, 2009

I will be performing Respighi’s “The Pines of Rome” with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra this Friday and Saturday (May 29 and 30, 2009). This is a WONDERFUL piece of music, and is, in my opinion, one of the best orchestral pieces ever written. It’s simply gorgeous.

If you are unfamiliar with this piece, be sure to check out the following video:

CBC Broadcast

The Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra’s performance of Philip Glass’ “Low” Symphony (Which I was a part of!) will be broadcast this Sunday afternoon (January 25, 2009) as part of the “Concerts on Demand” programming. If you are interested, but can’t tune in at that time, fear not! The performance is also available here, on the CBC website:

So, just when I thought that playing Philip Glass’ First Symphony with the CPO was exciting enough, it turns out that the Friday night performance is going to be recorded by the CBC and broadcast nationally on a later date! To top it all off I get to see Glass’ solo piano concert on Wednesday, and hopefully met him (fingers crossed!!!!) after that concert!

Here is a great Youtube Video of Glass in action at home in New York City:

Philip Glass and CPO

January 8, 2009

As you may or not know, Philip Glass, who happens to be one of my favorite contemporary composers, will be in Calgary this month as resident artist for the High Performance Rodeo (an event which featured an arrangement of Mike Oldfield’s “Tubular Bells” for four pianos last year by our very own Marcel Bergmann.) Needless to say, I am very excited to be able to attend most of the events surrounding this occasion, but to top it off I will now be playing with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra for their performances of Glass’ “Low” Symphony the week prior to his arrival, on January 16 and 17! (See here for more information!)

I can’t wait, and I hope that I get to meet him at some point while he is here! I still have to work on getting into Cantos for his private tour… !!!
