Playing The Pines of Rome With the CPO!

May 25, 2009

I will be performing Respighi’s “The Pines of Rome” with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra this Friday and Saturday (May 29 and 30, 2009). This is a WONDERFUL piece of music, and is, in my opinion, one of the best orchestral pieces ever written. It’s simply gorgeous.

If you are unfamiliar with this piece, be sure to check out the following video:

February 11, 2009

I am excited to announce that my senior recital proposal has been approved (phew!) and will now officially be held on March 9, 2009 at 8:00pm. You are invited to an exciting evening of fantastic clarinet repertoire featuring “Gra” by Elliot Carter (to celebrate his 100th birthday), “Fratres II” (arranged by myself for clarinet and piano for Arvo Pärt’s 75th birthday), and a very special performance of Richard Strauss’ “Till Eulenspiegel” featuring guest artists Adriana Lebedovic, Mathew James, Michael Macauley, and Erin MacLeod.

I hope to see you there, admission is FREE so there are no excuses!

Johannes Brahms – Sonata for Clarinet and Piano, Op. 120, No. 2

Arvo Pärt – Fratres II (Arranged for clarinet and piano by Sean Perrin)

Elliot Carter – Gra

Philip Glass and CPO

January 8, 2009

As you may or not know, Philip Glass, who happens to be one of my favorite contemporary composers, will be in Calgary this month as resident artist for the High Performance Rodeo (an event which featured an arrangement of Mike Oldfield’s “Tubular Bells” for four pianos last year by our very own Marcel Bergmann.) Needless to say, I am very excited to be able to attend most of the events surrounding this occasion, but to top it off I will now be playing with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra for their performances of Glass’ “Low” Symphony the week prior to his arrival, on January 16 and 17! (See here for more information!)

I can’t wait, and I hope that I get to meet him at some point while he is here! I still have to work on getting into Cantos for his private tour… !!!
